Good morning and Happy Monday! It’s that time once again where we check in with Laura from I’d rather sit on the couch about our weekly goals!
It’s actually been two weeks since the last time I posted a Monday Motivator, and that’s because I received some annoying medical news in the days following my last MM post: I’m super anemic again. Not that that news actually affected my fitness goals, since they were to get up and move around a little while doing computer work and get my booty on the bike with no time, distance or speed in mind. So, yay, I was able to accomplish both of those things!
I made a conscious effort to drink more water while sitting at the computer, which meant that I had to pee more often, which meant that I got up and wandered into the bathroom about every hour or so (and I filled up my water bottle while I was up, thus ensuring another trip to the bathroom soon – it’s a win-win situation). Goal: met.
And though it wasn’t exactly the bike ride of my dreams, I was able to knock that goal off the list, too. One of the weird (but not unheard of) side effects of being anemic is that my allergies (and therefore my allergy- and exercise-induced asthma) are completely out of control. I am winded, breathless, and wheezing just walking across the room. So, I am not running at all right now in an effort to shore up my iron/hemoglobin/hematocrit supply, but also because I simply can’t breathe. And that’s why I rode my bike very slowly next to my running client last week while she busted out her awesome five-miler. Goal: met.
That leads us to this week’s goals, which are also somewhat unconventional: I want to get some forward momentum going on anemia and allergy recovery. My doctor and I are not on the same page with a timeline, which is to say that she’s taking her sweet-ass time getting back to me and so far, I don’t have a plan of attack for figuring out why I’m anemic or what we’re going to do about it. I have zero interest in losing another four months like I lost last year, so this week I plan on making some shit happen. That’s a hard goal to quantify, but there you have it. Oh, and I think I’ll get on the bike again, because that was fun.
What are your goals for the week??
Kate says
Bikes ARE fun! I’m sorry you’re stuck with yours, but thank goodness for having some options, huh? Good luck getting the anemia thing figured out. Maybe it’s time for some kind of specialist?

As a health care worker, I have to wonder why you continue to struggle with anemia. Hate to be the armchair quarterback, but have you seen a hematologist?
PahlaB2@gmail.com says
I WONDER, TOO!! Please, armchair away, because I am stumped and my doctor is taking forever to get back to me, which is making me a little cuckoo in the head! If you have theories, I would be very open to hearing them. So far, my only referral is to GI for a colonoscopy to check for internal bleeding sources.

Well, congrats on meeting all your goals! This anemia business totally sucks… And how frustrating that your doctor isn’t helping!
