I started running several years ago at the ripe old age of 37, and fell in love with it at nearly the first step. Okay, maybe not, because that first mile was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done! So let’s say I fell in love “quickly” and with that love came the desire to run more and occasionally run faster. I’ve weathered my share of injuries and setbacks, but – far more importantly – enjoyed a few age group placements and the thrill of completing distances that once seemed utterly impossible. So far, I’ve raced every distance between a 5K and a 50-miler, and if I had to choose my favorite, it would probably be the 50-miler! I’m not really all that fast, so I’d rather run all day (and enjoy the buffet every four miles) than knock myself out for 25 minutes.
I’m the mom of two funny, fascinating, and occasionally infuriating teenage boys (Big Boy and Little Boy) who both run circles around me with their speedy track and cross country paces; the wife of a 2x Ironman (UltraIronHubs or UIH for short) who runs ultras for breakfast, and a fitness entrepreneur. My day job is recording and posting full-length workout videos for my fitness website (www.PahlaBFitness.com), which means that I literally exercise for a living! Is that the bomb-diggity, or what?
I’ve been writing much, much longer than I’ve been running. I’m pretty much always telling stories in my head, narrating my day to an imaginary audience, and making myself giggle, so writing a blog felt like a natural fit for me. I love sharing snippets of my life and connecting with other runners to read their stories, too.
I stick close to home for my racing adventures for now, but in the not-too-distant future – when we are facing Empty Nest Syndrome – I have grand plans of running 50 (K or miles) in all 50 states, traveling with my dear UltraIronHubs.
