Thank Heavens I’m Exercising Friday!
*crickets chirping*
Okay, you know what? Sometimes I’m not clever. In fact, most days I have to settle for “mildly amusing.”
I rode my bike today!! Yay!! It was a very short and slow ride which ordinarily wouldn’t have been blog-worthy at all. Ah, but today I’ll regale you with every detail because I’m celebrating the fact that my leg/knee didn’t hurt!
I haven’t been running or riding my bike this week in an attempt to rehab my ITBS. What have I been doing instead? Well, I’ve been keeping to a strict schedule of barely swimming, half-ass core workouts, feeling sorry for myself and eating a Family Size bag of candy corn. I really, really wish I was joking about this or at least exaggerating. Nope. Two pounds of candy corn went down my gullet in the last five days. Go big or go home, I always say, and this week I did both.
I’ve also been doing a whole lotta Pigeon Pose and foam rollering, which seems to be helping my IT. I’ve been completely pain-free while walking and doing regular stuff for the past two days, so I was super excited to try out my bike today. I’m still not running until Monday…maybe Sunday. I don’t want to push it, but I also don’t want to continue to eat my weight in sugar.
I spent half of today’s ride thinking, “Was that a twinge? Is my hip tight? Do I feel okay?” and the other half studiously NOT thinking about my leg because I was so flippin’ happy to be on my bike that nothing short of a massive stroke was going to make me stop riding.
Thank Heavens I (have) Endorphins, Finally!
Final stats: 8.42 miles @ 16.5 mph. Hell to the yeahs, baby!
Happy Weekend, Happy Training and Happy Racing to you all!!

I thought I had an exclusive on the “strict schedule of barely swimming, half-ass core workouts, feeling sorry for myself and eating a Family Size bag of candy corn” mindset. Good stuff on the pain free ride.

Oooh cautious woot for no leg/hip pain. Maybe half-assed is the way to go!

Good luck with your rehab…pigeon pose is a great one! I haven’t bought any Halloween candy yet this year…too hard to resist if it’s in the house!

My training this week would make yours look hard core. When I take a week off to rest my back and hip I take it off from everything (including housework) but eating!
And I think you are clever!

Yeah for the pain free ride. Hope a pain free run happens soon. I told Jill and Lindsay I fondled the candy corn at the supermarket today (when no one was watching) but so far resisted buying it! LOVE candy corn.

oh my gosh! you totally cracked me up with your “strict schedule of barely swimming, half-ass core workouts, feeling sorry for myself and eating a Family Size bag of candy corn” statement. I had to read it out loud to my husband in the other room 🙂

I HATE the foam roller, but I am also running ITB pain free so I guess it is a necessary evil. Lay off the candy corn, my belly aches for you. LOL just kidding, do what you gotta do, there are worse things than candy corn.
