Well, clearly the silver lining to all the heat during the day is that my pool is now a really awesome swimming temperature – yay! It’s gone up at least 8 or 10 degrees since last week (when it was in the 60s, brrrrrrrrrr).
I had another terrific swim day today – I went 1200 meters!!! This from the girl who, just a month ago, was ready to quit swimming altogether because it scared me too much. Here’s what I love about pushing your limits: when you fail, you just keep trying, and when you finally succeed, you pretty much feel like a ROCK STAR! In my case, that would be a painfully s l o w rock star, but still.
So, I took the plunge – *groan* – today and timed my swim. It wasn’t pretty. But it did give me sort of a baseline time that I can look back on in a few months or next year and say, “Damn, I’ve gotten a lot faster!” 1200 meters (I can see already that I’m going to be throwing that number around a lot in casual conversation today. “Oh, yeah, this morning when I was swimming 1200 meters…” “Well, on my 1200 meter swim today…”) took me 31 minutes and 39 seconds, which is 42 minutes per mile. Is that how swimming is paced, per mile? See, I’m so non-swimmer-ish that I don’t even know how to express my pace. That’s why I’m sticking with subjective descriptions such as “turtle-like.”
On a very happy note, I love, love, love my SportCount lap counter/timer gadget! Actually, it belongs to The Hubs, but we live in a community property state. π This is it here:
As you can see, it goes around your finger, and you push the button with your thumb to track your laps. Super easy, super convenient. If I didn’t suffer from “fogging issues” with my goggles, it would be easy to read, too. Initially, I worried that it would fall off or maybe feel bulky and awkward, but after a lap or two I honestly didn’t notice it at all. It makes me so happy when gadgets work like they’re advertised!
Happy Monday – I hope your week is off to a wonderful start, too!

Hey, P! (I love that you also call yourself an average athlete! We can be Average Twins!) Thanks for stopping by my blog … based on some of the blogs you follow, I think you might enjoy what I’m about to post. π
Thanks also for the compliment on my finishing photo. My looks there are definitely deceiving … but like you said in your post, there’s something about pushing yourself to your limits, learning from the experience, and feeling like a rockstar. I think that’s where the smile came from. π
Can’t wait to read more of your blog!! Keep rocking.
xoxo,
A
