It’s true, I was up and running in the 3 o’clock hour again this morning. My training plan is so completely jacked right now from all the unforeseen circumstances – my hours at work, The Hubs’ training and racing plans, unscheduled travel, etc. – that I’m not even sure if today was supposed to be a run day. Oh, well, I needed to run, so that made it a run day.
Today was looking pretty busy from one end to the other, including a work shift that started at 5 am, so the only place to fit in a run was at the butt-crack of dawn. No, actually, it was earlier than that; I think I can safely refer to it as The Middle of the Night.
Not so wide-awake, but ready to go. I look a little “crazed” to be heading out the door at 3:30, huh? I’m wearing my 26.2 Sweaty Band to remind me of why I’m getting my butt out the door.
I wore extra “reflecty” gear this morning to make sure all four drivers on the road saw me: Army issue reflective belt, bright neon green shirt and orange RunningSkirt with the cute reflective logo.
I’m going to spend some time this weekend on my training plan, updating it to include my next tri (I need more bricks!), and maneuvering it around my work/volunteer/mom schedule. I don’t mean to sound like I’m complaining (even though I am totally complaining), but “fitting in” my workouts sucks. I don’t like exercising after work. Running used to be the first item on my To Do list every day and now it feels like it’s getting lost in the shuffle.
But enough with the Pity Party. I ran, and it was good. Today was an Easy 2-Miler at a relaxed 8:10 pace. I saw exactly seven cars while I was out and, wouldn’t you know it, one of them wanted to make a right-hand turn directly in front of me! Ha, ha!
When do you fit in workouts if you’re running short on time??

I think it is great that you are able to get up at the acod (a$$ crack of dawn) to workout…I can not. I would rather run in the evening. The only problem I have is timing dinner and working out.

I run early – but never THAT early. In my book 3:30 am is sleeping time.
Aimee (I Tri To Be Me) says
Wow…I still can’t believe that you get up at 3:30! When I’m running short on time I’ll try to get a workout in after we put the boys to sleep. It’s tough to do at night b/c I’m so tired at the end of the day, but sometimes it’s the only time that works.

Wow, that’s an early run! When I run early (much later than 3:30) I wear my hubby’s Army issued reflective belt also, we’re twins! 🙂

If I have to I get up early and do them. But I have never gotten up at 3:30. That is hard core.
Candice @ I Have Run says
I needed to read this. I have to get up early (not that early) tomorrow to get a run in before we get busy with the weekend. Way to get out there!!

I went to bed at 2:30 last night. Extremity at both ends, but then again that’s how we roll in Cali, right?
MCM Mama says
I can’t imagine running that early… My life is apparently nowhere near as busy as yours as I can always fit it in somewhere between 6am and 9pm if I’m motivated.
Good job getting it done!

You rock! That is dedication! I think the earliest I’ve gotten up to run is 5:30!

WOWZA! You are a beast. I normally run at night anyways, so that is when I try to squeeze them in.
Tortuga_Runner says
WOW you are seriously committed…or should be! LOL Just kidding. My earliest runs are at 5:00 am or I run after the kids go to bed around 8:45 PM. I am hopefully going to start doing group runs at 7:00 PM Wednesday nights and return to the world of people who have time during daylight hours, we’ll see. I am also fairly busy. Good job getting it done!

I like this, well done! I run early and get up at 03:45 every Wednesday for my midweek longer run. The other days I get up between 04:00 and 04:30. 04:30 is the latest I get up on week days. Running early can be difficult but once done you feel awesome.

you are completely amazing.

3:30, ouch – thats super early. Good on you for being extremely motivated. Keep up the good work.
The Green Girl says
I agree with everyone else, you are amazing to wake up that early!
Laurie says
Yep, you’re the real deal. 3:30 definitely qualifies for the middle of the night, you rock! I’ve run at 4 a couple of times to get my runs in but that’s about as crazy as I get.
Thanks for entering my giveaway. Your comments always make me so happy. Your sidebar looks great by the way. 😛
Running Diva Mom says
Wow — that IS early! Holy smokes! And, i felt pretty good about not hitting the snooze button yesterday on my day off, to get up at 5:30 for 8 miles!! ha! You rock — a mom definitely does what she needs to do to get it all done. You must be super mom or something! GREAT JOB!!!!
Jon says
Good golly that is early! Way to go! What is that reflective belt you have on? Its getting darker later in the mornings now.
My best time to run is early in the morning so that I don’t have to eat anything.
