…and his real name is Bicycling Aerodynamics.”
I took Mr. Bike out for a little 10+ mile spin today and spent the entire ride on my aero bars (well, except for the bajillion red lights I had to stop for and turning corners, of course). Holy moly, it was awesome! This is what I usually look like on my bike:
And here’s what I looked like today:
I Googled bicycle aerodynamics so I could learn all about it, but every page was like “blah blah blah science-y stuff blah blah”.” Let me summarize all that in my own words: Bend over = go fast. Final stats today: 10.81 miles @ 18.4 mph, which I think is my fastest ride ever.
I’d like to compare this ride with other rides by speed or by distance, but I use Garmin Training Center and as far as I can tell, there’s no “Sort By” function. The Voomaxer app on Facebook doesn’t really sort, either. How do you store your workout stats? Do you ever go back and compare with your current fitness level??

Ha ha, but you’re so cute on your little pink bike!
Way to go, Speedy. 🙂
As for training, I don’t ride, but with my runs, I store them all in the log on runner’s world and I can compare my times on the same routes, which I do constantly because, well, it’s just not fun if it isn’t a competition.

Yeah…aero bars are awesome! It’s amazing at what a difference they make! I store my workouts on Buckeye Outdoors and Garmin Connect. Sometimes I go back and look over my data, but usually I just log it.

Sigh… I’m soo slow on my bike! Looks like the aero bars are the answer for you… maybe I’ll have to try them 🙂

Nice ride! I once did one of those science-y tests and it is true (as you found)….you go faster in the aero position (duh!).

I log my stuff in Daily Mile, and other than that… well, I don’t put much thought into it. I do compare runs to eachother, and Daily mile works well for that. Usually I write in my splits so I can see how the miles break down. I have a Garmin, and used a Garmin program for a day or two, but never got in the habit of using it.
Hmm. Think maybe my stupid pink schwinn needs some areo bars? With the child seat on back though… somehow I don’t think they’re going to help me look as cool as that photo.

I log my runs in Excel and at Buckeyeoutdoors.com. I’ve got a PHD in Excel, no I invented the PHD Excel curriculum and always go back to compare and do whatever I want. I practically live in spreadsheets. The online stats are a nice backup plus I use it to show my distance on my blog sidebar.

I’m bad about my stats. I load them onto Garmin connect and manually log in a book. I try to include nutrition aspects as well. I am behind in this!

Hi! I found your blog through comments of another blog. I look forward to reading! I just love that your boys did a Tri!

Aerodynamics are a wonderful thing but finding the balance between minimizing air resistance and optimizing power is always a challenge. Tassels at the end of handlebars seem to help though!
On a more serious note, I train with power meters and load everything into Trainingpeaks for analysis.

Funny comparison pictures! I also upload them on Garmin Connect and then write everything down in a log book, where I look back and compare workouts.

I’ll be riding the bike to crosstrain starting Monday. I think it’ll really help me with my running!
